Step 1

What is a sponsorship?

Sponsorship is the ultimate act of welcome – and anyone can do it.
Over the last year, hundreds of thousands of everyday Americans have stepped up to provide a bridge to safety and a path to opportunities for families seeking refuge in the United States through ground-breaking government programs.

Think about the type of support you’d need if you moved to a new country where you didn’t know anyone, where the culture is new to you, and where the language might be a challenge. The response for all of that is sponsorship.

Step 2

Who is a sponsor?

The vast majority of U.S. residents can become sponsors through the United for Ukraine program. The primary role of a sponsor is to become an individual or join a group of individuals or an organization to invite, welcome, and guide Ukrainians seeking refuge in the U.S.

Sponsors provide day-to-day support to make sure newcomers feel welcomed in their new communities and have the information and tools they need to start a new life in the United States.

Step 3

What is the sponsor's responsibility?

The sponsor's responsibility is to be a guide, friend, and good neighbour for newcomers. Sponsor helps them manage their challenges and cover their basic needs. Refugees usually need someone to:

  • greet them at the airport,
  • provide temporary accommodation (as a rule, for no more than one month),

  • help to enrol children in schools and enrol adults in English classes,

  • help get access the healthcare providers and apply for available benefits

  • help find a housing and apply for jobs

Our goal is to support you in each step of that process providing you with all the information and resources.

Step 4

Financial responsibility

Important note: Under I-134A Form, sponsors don't get financial obligations for beneficiaries. Same time they declare their willingness to support this family while they need it.

That is why the I-134 Form requires the annual income of the potential sponsors and how much they are ready to spend monthly for beneficiaries. So be sure: financial support is welcome but not required.

Step 5

How long do Ukrainians need the Sponsor's Supervision?

As a rule, newcomers need sponsors' supervision for at most 2-3 months. That period is enough for them to get self-sufficient and solve all issues independently. Many refugees don't need anything except the submission of the I-134 Form.

But some of them do. That is why we offer potential sponsors to choose a family according to their abilities. Try to reach out to a family beforehand to discuss their needs and opportunities.
